Dr. Ruth Calderon is a 56-year-old Israeli academic and politician who, between 2013 and 2015, was a member of the Knesset for the Yesh Atid party. What differentiates Calderon from other non-Orthodox Israeli thinkers and activists is that she is highly educated in both Torah and Talmud — something she believes is necessary if secular Israelis are to have credibility when fighting for greater Jewish religious pluralism. Calderon has been an indefatigable activist for that pluralism and for the Jewish Renewal movement.
